01

Look for operational signals

Repeated interface decisions, conflicting components and slow handoffs indicate that the team is paying an inconsistency tax. A system can convert those recurring debates into shared foundations.

The goal is not a complete library on day one. Start with the patterns that appear frequently and carry meaningful usability risk.

02

Design for contribution

A system succeeds when product teams can improve it. Define ownership, review, versioning and documentation alongside the visual and code components.

Design tokens and accessible interaction rules create a common language across design and engineering without forcing every experience to look identical.

03

Measure adoption, not inventory

A long component list is not evidence of value. Track product coverage, defects, delivery speed and contribution activity to understand whether the system is reducing friction.

Treat the system as a product with users, priorities and maintenance—not a one-off interface cleanup.
