01

Define the first value moment

Identify the smallest completed action that proves the product is useful. The initial experience should remove everything that does not help a new customer reach that point safely.

Different roles may need different value moments, so segment onboarding where the product job genuinely changes.

02

Ask for context progressively

Permissions, profile details and preferences are easier to understand when requested at the moment they improve an action. Explain the benefit clearly and provide a useful path when a customer declines.

Progressive setup also shortens the perceived distance between installing the app and accomplishing something meaningful.

03

Measure behavior after completion

Onboarding completion is only a leading signal. Track whether customers return, repeat the core action and discover the next relevant capability.

Use those patterns to refine prompts and product guidance rather than adding more introductory screens.
